About the role
The Quantity Surveying Manager will be responsible for leading and managing the quantity surveying team, managing all aspects of the contractual and financial side of construction projects, analyzing existing budgets and making improvements, reviewing plans and preparing quantity estimates, negotiating with various contractors and vendors, as well as building relationships with clients and site managers.
Responsibilities:
- Cost Estimation and Budgeting: Prepare accurate cost estimates for construction projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and other expenses. Develop and maintain project budgets, ensuring adherence to financial constraints and cost control throughout the project lifecycle.
- Tendering and Contract Management: Oversee the tendering process, including preparing and issuing invitations to tender, evaluating bids, and recommending the most suitable contractors or suppliers. Manage contracts and subcontract agreements, ensuring compliance and resolving any contractual disputes that may arise.
- Project Planning and Scheduling: Collaborate with project teams to create detailed plans and schedules, determining the required resources and timeframes for various project stages. Monitor project progress and provide regular updates to stakeholders.
- Quantity Measurement and Take-offs: Conduct accurate quantity take-offs from architectural and engineering drawings, providing the necessary data for procurement and cost planning.
- Value Engineering: Identify value engineering opportunities to optimize project costs without compromising quality or functionality.
- Cost Control and Monitoring: Monitor project expenses and analyze cost variances. Implement effective cost control measures to keep projects within budget.
- Risk Management: Identify potential risks and opportunities that may impact project costs or timelines. Develop strategies to mitigate risks and exploit opportunities.
- Change Management: Evaluate and manage variations or change orders, assessing their impact on project costs and timelines.
- Cost Reporting: Prepare regular cost reports for project stakeholders, including clients, senior management, and other relevant parties.
- Procurement and Negotiation: Oversee procurement activities, including sourcing materials and services, and negotiate favorable terms with suppliers and contractors.
- Team Management: Lead and manage the quantity surveying team, ensuring they have the necessary support and resources to perform their duties effectively.
- Compliance and Standards: Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, building codes, and regulations in all quantity surveying activities.
- Post-Contract Assessment: Conduct post-contract assessments, including cost evaluations and lessons learned, to inform future projects and improve cost estimating accuracy.
- Stakeholder Communication: Maintain effective communication with clients, contractors, architects, and other project stakeholders to address concerns and facilitate smooth project execution.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or Masters' degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or related fields
- Have at least 8 years of experience in all aspects of Quantity Surveyor, Procurement, or related fields
- Having experience in project management, project cost control, and contract management will be an advantage
- Good Knowledge of quantity surveyor, tender analysis and comparison, or procurement
- Strong leadership skills, Analytical skills, Problem-solving skills, Negotiation skills, Budget management or Cost control skill, and Interpersonal skill
- Good command of English & Bahasa Melayu (spoken and written).
